Above-Ground / Floor Standing Grease Traps
Our range of above ground grease traps are available for internal and external installations. They are sometimes known as under sink grease traps, as they can be installed underneath or adjacent to the contaminating sink or other equipment within the kitchen area. For larger units, known as floor standing grease traps , can be centrally located within a plant room to take the complete wastewater drainage line from the entire kitchen.
Above ground grease traps can come as passive manual traps, hydro-mechanical or fully automatic self-cleaning systems. They can be easily accessed and serviced by either an engineer from Aqua Mundus, or for lower maintenance units, by a member of your establishment. We would always recommend a planned preventative maintenance program on all grease management solutions to make sure your system remians remains compliant at all times.
Commercial under sink grease traps are the most common above ground grease traps that are installed due to the vast product range and the easy location access. This is echoed further within an existing kitchen or whether the system is designed for a new build establishment.

Passive Manual Grease Traps
A passive manual grease traps, a popular type of under sink grease trap solution, separate FOG manually using a simple gravity separation process that does not require an energy source but does need to be emptied manually on a regular basis. There are a variety of passive grease traps available depending on the size of your kitchen and its requirements. We can supply passive grease traps from 20 Litres up to 5,000 + litres in Polyethylene or Stainless Steel.
SSGT Stainless Steel Passive Manual Grease Traps
These robust units use a patented FreshMesh filter that is designed to filter out solid waste efficiently. FreshMesh filtration is proven to be effective with a high percentage of FOG (fats, oil and grease) capture. There is also the additional option of using the “super fine” FreshMesh system that removes coffee grounds from wastewater.
The system uses its internal baffle walls to prevent FOG from flowing out to the drain line. These units are installed with a 10-year warranty. They can be used in a single sink or a multi-sink kitchen and can manage dishwasher outflow. They are space efficient, requiring a minimum area to install and operate. Due to their versatility, SSGTs are easy to retro-fit and use standard plumbing fittings.
The SSGT is built to deliver years of service as it is constructed from 304 stainless steel. They also have a quick release watertight lid for simple inspection and cleaning. A stainless steel grease trap works by accepting the sink discharge water that contains food debris and FOG. Once inside the grease trap the FOG separates from the solid waste and floats to the surface. There is the option of biological dosing which can reduce the maintenance frequency and also help with odours during cleaning.
The remaining food waste is collected in the FreshMesh basket that then needs to be manually emptied into the general food waste bin.
Trapzilla grease interceptor
The Trapzilla is a super-capacity grease interceptor that has a grease retention capacity of up to 80% of its total volume in some models, whilst maintaining a high efficiency rate.
The Trapzilla has a unique, patented, curve separation technology that reduces its footprint and enables it to be installed into most commercial establishments.
It is constructed of tough, corrosion resistant polyethylene that provides it with a long life, but it is also supplied with a limited lifetime warranty.
The Trapzilla’s patented curve design ensures that there is no buildup of grease and the interceptor is able to retain a high capacity compared to most flat-bottomed grease traps that often have a build up of debris in the corners and thus have a lower efficiency.
Trapzilla grease trap can manage a maximum of 828kg of grease and a maximum flow rate of 6.31 l/s.
For above ground installations, Trapzilla units are supplied with a support stand assembly (SSA) to ensure safety and accuracy.
Automatic GRU (Grease Removal Units)
Grease Removal Units automatically separates and removes fats, oils and grease from wastewater effluent. These units save manpower and require minimal or zero maintenance, providing you with peace of mind in regards to your grease management.
Grease removal units can also remove solid food waste particles and eliminate foul odours that can be found in manual grease traps. These units are equipped with automatic timers or sensors for self-cleaning and can be used at point of source (as an under sink grease trap installation) or centrally.
With a wide range of commercial under sink grease trap models available to treat single & multiple sink appliances, to pass through dishwashers, combination ovens or chicken rotisseries and more, a GRU is now the most preferred option in the modern day kitchen.
Big Dipper automatic grease removal unit
The Big Dipper Internal Strainer (IS) System is a fully-automated engineering system for the separation and removal of FOG (fats, oils and grease) from kitchen wastewater.
It uses a digital controller to ensure regular and efficient grease “skimming” as well as self-cleaning, removing 99.5% of FOG.
Big Dipper’s total removal of FOG means that there is no requirement for any chemicals, but nevertheless the latest 51K series unit has advanced odour protection that provides a pleasant working atmosphere.
The Big Dipper can manage a maximum flow rate of 7.89 l/s and a grease retention capacity of at least 136kg, it can also skim 18.16kg per hour.
The Big Dipper range of units can be sited underneath a grease producing fixture or centrally located within a plant room for complete drainage protection.
GreaseShield automatic grease removal unit
Grease Shield offers a fully automatic removal of FOG (down to 100ppm) and solid food waste particles. It operates using a pre-filter and an optional automatic solids transfer (AST) removal system.
Ideal for those seeking to be environmentally friendly, Grease Shield is the first and only “green” certified grease trap in the world.
With no heating elements or required chemicals, it is also a useful option for the economically minded.
Grease Shield have a range of active flow rates, from 1 litres per second through to a maximum of 4 litres per second.
Grease Shield has a relatively small footprint and can therefore be installed in most kitchens and low level invert options for combi-oven installations suit space constraints in any commercial kitchen.
Grease Capture
Grease Capture , an under sink grease trap stalwart, is designed for foodservice establishments where space is limited and a larger grease separator cannot be installed. Automatically removes greases, oils and fats before entering the drainage system to protect them from clogging. Exceptionally efficient removal of greases, oils and fats thanks to a unique two-chamber separation and coalescent gap system.
